Warner Snags Arkham Asylum Dev Rocksteady

by Jeff Cork on Feb 23, 2010 at 02:44 AM

Rocksteady Studios’ ability to do the unthinkable—develop a Batman game that was actually worth playing—wowed players and critics when its Arkham Asylum last August. Who were these guys? Where did they get such wonderful toys? More importantly, were they for sale? Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group, parent division to Warner Bros. Interactive, has at least answered the last question.

Warner today revealed that it has acquired a majority stake in Rocksteady, a move that follows similar acquisitions of Traveller’s Tales Games, Snowblind Studios and most of Midway Games’ assets.

“With the successful release of Batman: Arkham Asylum, a franchise that is a key focus for Warner Bros., Rocksteady has proven that they have the expertise to create hit games with mass appeal,” said Martin Tremblay, president, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. “We are currently working with Rocksteady on the sequel to Batman: Arkham Asylum and look forward to bringing the continuation of the franchise to fans worldwide.”

As far as the sequel goes, we don’t know much more about it other than Two-Face will be in it, doing his part to help completely ruin Gotham City for the rest of us.
