March Cover Revealed

Rockstar Games is known for its ambitious projects, and L.A. Noire proves that the company’s reputation is safe. While the rumblings about the game have been heard for years, our world exclusive cover story is the only place you’ll be able to get concrete information on the gritty crime epic. Over the course of our 10-page feature we look at the game’s astonishing reconstruction of 1947 Los Angeles and learn how the team took on such a massive undertaking. We also talk to the team to see L.A. Noire’s groundbreaking facial-animation system in action, and learn how it might change the way we look at games from now on.

Some of the other features in our March issue include a look at the status of some of our favorite old franchises, previews of some of the Independent Games Festival nominees, and a guide for parents interested in parental controls. We also grill Platinum Games’ director Hideki Kamiya on Bayonetta, dig into the legal battle over Duke Nukem, and check out some of the hottest tech around. If you’ve been wondering why Polyphony Digital seems to operate without deadlines, Sony’s head of internal development, Shuhei Yoshida, explains why the company cuts the Gran Turismo 5 developer so much slack.

Sequels to Mass Effect, BioShock, and Battlefield: Bad Company get reviewed in the March issue of Game Informer Magazine, along with Dante’s Inferno, Aliens vs. Predator and many more.

Subscribers will be getting the March issue soon, and it will be hitting newsstands shortly afterward.

  • Been waiting for this for a long long time.

  • Nice cover; hoping this issue will say something about a birth by sleep english release.

  • Rockstar is a great game company, I love their games. They make the only racing games that I will play. This new one looks pretty cool, I love old time theme's.

  • in need of a new game with depth, a crime story can't wait! noire is a plus thanks ROCKSTAR & thanks GAMEINFORMER for being on top of your game! =D

    @Sean/DeadbyDagger

    It's not a PS3-exclusive. It was at one point, but it's coming out for the PS3 and 360.

    Love the back cover image a lot for some reason.

    I really hope the game goes deep into a whole seedy, L.A. Confidential/crooked L.A.P.D./Chinatown vibe. It has to.

  • @DeadbyDagger-Well I just got served. Good show sir. The second I posted that I thought "Yknow I bet someone comes on and tells me Rockstar only published it." Thinking of that Remedy sign at the beginning only heightened my disconcernment. My bad.

    To be clear, this is NOT a PS3 exclusive. Rockstar has another game called The Agent it announced last June that fulfills that role.

  • what is THIS???

  • This game could be interesting...

  • Wow, this looks really cool.

  • Is this a PS3 exclusive, then?  I know that Rockstar was developing a game exclusively for PS3 to make up for the exclusive GTAIV DLC for 360, but they're already doing Agent as a PS3 exclusive.   On wikipedia it says definitively PS3, but that it also might be multi-plat.  I'll probably get the PS3 version either way, but it would be nice if everyone got the chance to play it.

  • @ Kato

    Yeah, for once I spoke without re-checking my facts, and alas, I was wrong.  Last time I checked, L.A. Noire was still PS3 exclusive, but that's obviously changed since then.  Thanks much for the info though.  That's good news.

    @ScruffytheJanitor

    Yeah, I have this kind of useless knowledge about Rockstar and their various subsidiaries and products.  So when I get the chance to spout this knowledge, I jump at it.  Anyway, if you didn't know already, Remedy has been developing Alan Wake forever and it's supposedly nearing completion.  If you liked the Max Payne stories, you should take a look at that since Sam Lake is also involved in writing that story

  • Okay, good, it is multiplatform.  I thought it seemed strange that Rockstar would be developing two PS3 exclusives.  This game looks awesome though, and it's great to see that Rockstar is embracing concepts that haven't been mined by developers up to this point.

  • Beautiful cover- can not wait to read about some of the features of this game. So much was shrouded in mystery!

  • Nice, surprising I haven't heard of this game yet considering it's been around for years.

    Anyways nice cover and I can't wait to see what the reviews are for AVP, and Battlefield!

  • Mod

    When this was first announced as a PS3 exclusive, I was a little bummed that I wouldn't be able to check it out since I only have a 360. Now, I'm very much interested in it and can't wait to see how it's turned out.

  • I'm loving the cover art you guys have been coming out with. As well as the new layouts that are being used. I've always liked reading you're articles and now just more enjoyable to read with the new style. I agree L.A. Noire reminds me of L.A. Confidential. If the story is anything like how the film was, its going to be a great title to own. Can't wait for more info on the game.

  • @ thefixer and various others

    I want to stress the fact that Rockstar is not developing the game, merely publishing it.  The development team is Team Bondi, who is just on contract with Rockstar for this one game at the moment.

    Yes, Rockstar has Agent coming down the pipes, which is a Rockstar North developed title that is (temporarily) exclusive to the PS3, but will most definitely be released to other platforms at a later date.  Proof?  No major Rockstar game to date has stayed exclusive, which was recently further proven with the announcement that EFLC was going multi-platform.

    Point of the second half of this post?  Just to stop the whining before it starts.  You Xbox guys will get it, I can guarantee that.

  • I am always excited for anything the geniuses at Rockstar turn out.

  • What happened to the wrap - around covers?
