Following Rumors, Square Enix Confirms Departure of CEO Mike Fischer
Last month wasn't a terribly good one for Square Enix. Not only did the studio report significant operating losses, but also laid off staff in its Los Angeles and European operations.
We reported on rumors last month that Mike Fischer, CEO of Square Enix America, would be departing. According to his LinkedIn profile, he has taken a new position as vice president of digital music and video with Amazon Japan. Fischer follows Square Enix president and CEO Yoichi Wada who also stepped down recently.
Prior to his tenure at Square Enix, Fisher served as the general manager of marketing for Microsoft, the vice president of entertainment marketing for Sega, and the director of marketing for Namco. When asked for comment, Square Enix stated,
"We can confirm that Mike Fischer is no longer with Square Enix. We’d like to thank Mike for all of his efforts and contributions to the company and to its employees."
