Weekend Warrior: 10/09/09

It has been just over a week since we launched the new GI site! We've been working hard all week cranking out new and exclusive content with plenty more to come. Our first week post launch is coming to a close so that means it's time to unwind and get on with our gaming! Read on to find out what we're up to this weekend.

Nick: Games! So finally, I am going to get back to some couch time. The new Game Informer site had really taken up a lot of my time as we pushed closer and closer to launch. But this weekend, I've got a copy of Batman: Arkham Asylum waiting for me. I cannot wait to dive in to the dark world of the Caped Crusader and find out what the Joker has in store for me. Also, after Episode #2 of the Game Informer Show (where I sound hilariously slow because of a delay in the headphones that threw me off), I've been wanting to play around in Crackdown again now that I've gotten a little taste of CD2's multiplayer in Tokyo.

Bryan: A good friend of mine scored us tickets to the Golden Gopher homecoming football game against Purdue on Saturday. Can't wait to finally see a game at the new stadium! The rest of the weekend will be filled with as much Uncharted 2 as I can get away with.

Reiner: Game Informer's Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising team "Mega Man Vikings Baby Diaper Sith" – consisting of Tim, Bertz, Jeff, and myself – will be going to war this Saturday. The reason for the long team name? None of us could agree on it, so we decided to each pick a term like in madlibs. If Tim plays the way he did last night, friendly fire will send him to the DL. If it comes to this (and it will), Nick has agreed to take his place. That's the weekend. Go team Mega Man Vikings Baby Diaper Sith!

Bertz: Busy is an understatement for my weekend. My plans: Finish Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, serve out my tour of duty in Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising, attend a bachelor's party on Saturday for a college friend, pick up two different groups of people from the airport, watch the Vikings' unmerciful slaughter of the Rams, and cap it all off with the booze-fueled Murder City Devils show Sunday night at First Avenue. If you haven't listened to this band and love bombastic garage punk rock or random acts of madness I strongly suggest checking them out. Somewhere amongst this over-scheduled frenzy I need to find time to hit the gym and eat. Wishing myself good luck...

Joe: One of my favorite bands, The Decemberists, is playing a show tonight so I'm pretty pumped for that. Also, since October is all scary and stuff, I think I'll start another playthrough of Dead Space at some point this weekend...when I'm not trying to finish Hardest difficulty in Earth Defense Force 2017 with a buddy. I may also finally get to the DLC for Valkyria Chronicles (which you should play if you haven't). I'll close things off with my weekly D&D group on Sunday night, which will be the finishing touch on a totally nerdy weekend.

Jeff M: Last week’s plans for some serious hibernation were slightly sidetracked by the new Crash Course DLC for Left 4 Dead (shameless plug: you can read my impressions on my latest blog post). This week will probably see the same thing happening – I need some more practice before L4D2 comes out! However, Nick’s post on Crackdown reminded me that I still haven’t completely purged Pacific City of its pesky gang problem. Well one thing is certain, whether it’s henchmen or zombies, I’m shooting something this weekend!

Meagan: This is quite a weekend for me. As you read this I am off at my cousin's wedding (congrats, Sarah!!). Tomorrow in the a.m. I am shooting reference photos for an out of town comic book artist who is modeling one of his characters on my likeness. Then it’s straight to Annette’s place where a bunch of us are getting ready for the Zombie Pub Crawl. This year they expect 5,000+ undead to attend. Our Left 4 Dead group doesn’t stand a chance. Sunday, if I can pull myself out of bed, it’s off to FallCon, Minnesota’s largest comic book convention. I doubt I will have time for gaming, but hanging with family, friends and comic geeks sounds like a good weekend to me.

Annette: Rumor has it my apartment will be host to zombie prep for this weekend’s Zombie Pub Crawl. We’re expecting weather in the 30s Saturday with snow flurries so we may all very well crawl back to my apartment for warmth if it gets too cold. I don’t think my security deposit will cover bloodstains on the carpet so hopefully things won't get too messy. We have a Left 4 Dead group, Plants vs. Zombies, Lara Croft (me), and more all in zombified glory. I can’t wait! Several GI staffers will be there. Photos to come! Otherwise, I’m keeping busy earning all trophies in Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune in preparation for Uncharted 2 next week!

Ben: Looks like I might be car shopping since my Ford is about to explode. Of course, I'll have to dress up as a plant and crash the Zombie Pub Crawl (get it?), but the rest of the weekend I should be able to play Infamous, Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood, or Valkyria Chronicles. Deciding what to play is almost a game in itself.

Dan: Getting ready for my first Zombie Pub Crawl tomorrow, although I'm concerned about the concept of fighting through hundreds of zombies just to get a beer. Some pre-drinking should solve that problem. After that, I'll be flying to an undisclosed location on Sunday to check out an undisclosed project. If I get any free time, I'll be trudging through Wet, possibly starting Grid and putting some time into Professor Layton & The Diabolical Box.

Phil: This weekend I plan to die. A lot. I've got a copy of Demon's Souls that I'll be playing like crazy while attempting to convince myself that dying this much in a game is okay so I don't throw my controller across the room. I might play some ODST, but a broken save setting me back several hours has sapped my desire to work through the single player. Perhaps some Firefight instead? On Saturday, I'll be doing some guild Heroic grinding on World of Warcraft. All in all a fine (if possibly frustrating) weekend.

Tim: This weekend I hope to finally polish off ODST. At this point the game seems to be sort of a grind and I want the disc out of my tray before Borderlands releases. Besides that, I'll probably continue cracking away at the brutally technical Operation Flashpoint. An interesting little game, that. Popping an enemy in the head from 500 feet is no sweat, but throwing a grenade through a window five yards away is brain surgery. Wait, what just happened? Oh, I got sniped...

That about wraps it up for us. What's on your play list this weekend?
