  • The User Review feature is awesome, and that makes me want a User Preview feature to compliment it.

I won't write reviews very often unless the game completely blows me away, but if such a feature were around, I would preview games left and right. I guess the blogs could serve that purpose, but then it gets grouped with a lot more generalized content.

  • I would like a quick way to get to the last page of a thread without having to click on the first page in order to get there. Also, the old forums had an "unread posts" bar, which shows you how many posts in a thread you haven't read and you can click on it to read all the unread posts, which I thought was a great way to keep up with what was happening in a thread.

I'm still seeing a high number of threads that are posted as question threads but are actually meant to be discussion threads.  Considering that there seem to be a lot more discussion threads than question threads, wouldn't it make more sense to default on the Discussion option when you go to make a new thread instead of the Question option?

This is a change I've been working on and should be implemented today.

You can narrow down discussions by unread, but there will be a lot of changes to the forums next year (ironing out bugs to get us out of beta before we can get to the next version).

Reviews and previews are very different beasts in our eyes.  Reviews are opinion, which everybody can have and share, but previews are more along the lines of news and we like to verify the facts of previews before posting them, so that would be a little harder to maintain.

We wanted to give you a way to let us know about something you are excited about we may not be reporting on (Submit a News Tip).

We could definitely give that ability to our Contributors, Experts, and Developers, though...  Thanks for the good idea :-)

Thanx Sean. I look forward to the changes to ensue. I have been hoping for these forums to be a little more like the playstation forums. Just not as hostile lol.

Yeah, on second thought, I wondered how most user previews would actually work without hands-on time or a significant amount of exposure to the game. For a better idea of what I was thinking of, though, I only planned to submit previews a month or so before the game's release, after a large amount of facts and confirmations have been released to the public, and I'd add a healthy dose of opinion to those.

But as a Contributor-, Expert-, and Developer-exclusive perk, it sounds like it would be even better.

  • This is a small suggestion, but the "last" button on "the feed" of the main page is in a confusing location.  Even though I now know where the "next" button is, my automatic reaction is still to press the "last" button in order to go to the next page.  If this is a common problem, then perhaps you guys should look into changing the position of the "last" and "next" buttons.

  • The Level 3 requirement would work very well. Of course, there might be those who would spam for 20 posts just to get around it.

Also, I want Kudos back. But as dbull pointed out, there should be...

Nega-Kudos as well. (When a post gets negative feedback, it looks like that with, say, -11 printed on it. Just a suggestion.)

And, even though I have them saved as pictures, I want these guys back! _______

    More suggestions:

    • Bring back the "Jump to first unread post" button as quickly as possible. (I know, its beta, so it could take some time)
    • Can we have the bar which showed who was online at any given time back? And on a related note, please let us see who is online straight from our friends lists.
    • The "Report Abuse" button should be given the highest priority. I've been using conversations to inform mods of abuse, but I have to flick through all the mods one by one to find somebody who is online.
    • Please, can we get some larger avatars? The current ones are a little on the small side.

Oh, and some questions for you, Sean: How do I make a Poll now that I'm a Silver member? And why is it that even when I trim my signature down to less than 100 characters, it still tells me it exceeds the 256 character limit? (I think it counts the code when I include links, which is kind of a problem)

  • As Tigereye pointed out, we need a way to tell who's online without having to check their profiles. Maybe a bar at the bottom like the old site had.

I'm not sure how well that would work.  I haven't signed out once since the site relaunch and I've never had to sign in again, so I don't know if my status ever switches to offline.

I believe that you would be counted as online as long as you have a window open to GI then. When you close, you're offline.

Even though I check the box that is supposed to sign me in automatically, I have to sign in every time. I don't know, it might have to do with my computer.

  • WHAT. THE. ***.

I just spent an hour and a half writing a blog, and just as I finished I accidentally hit the backspace key and I was sent back to my last window, all my work being destroyed. This needs to be fixed NAO. I'll never be able to remember everything I wrote exactly as wonderfully as it was put the first time through.

  • How about a "skip to last page button" on the forums list so I don't have to click a forum and then click on the last page.

There's a fine line between not listening and not caring... I walk that line everyday.

  • You know, you don't have to go to the last page to post a reply.  You can click on the reply button under any post on any page, then the reply window will pop up under that post and you can just type your reply to the thread there.  Your post will still go to the last page and once you click post reply it will even take you straight to your post on the last page.
