Nintendo Switch Online Will Hold Your Cloud Saves For Six Months After Your Membership Expires
A little while ago, it was discovered that if you unsubscribe from the newly-launched Nintendo Switch Online service, your clouds saves disappear. This made Nintendo's cloud save solution the most stringent, as PS4 cloud saves are kept indefinitely, and Xbox One/Steam have free cloud save storage. While it's still the case Nintendo's online service is lagging behind its competitors, we've recently learned that you do have some time before the saves are gone for good.
IGN reports that Nintendo keeps your cloud saves in storage for 180 days (six months) after your unsubscribe for the service. "If a Nintendo Switch Online membership expires, users won’t be able to access their Save Data Cloud backups," Nintendo said in a statement. "However, Nintendo will allow users who resubscribe within 180 days to access their previous Save Data Cloud backups."
This means that if, for whatever reason, you unsubscribe from the service, you can hold off on re-upping for a while, then come back and keep your saves. Of course, not all games will be compatible with cloud saving, and you won't have access to the NES controller-styled JoyCons while your subscription is lapsed.
