Hey guys,
I've been highlighting some of the best horror games on my Examiner.com column and since the months almost over I wanted to get some last minute opinions. I've already covered:
The Fatal Frame Series
The Silient Hill Series
The Resident Evil Series
Alone in the Dark
System Shock 2
and Clock Tower 3
but I've still got plenty of time to do more. I'm planning to do Deadspace, Condemened, Clive Barker's Undying and Doom 3, but I'd love to hear alternate opinions.
What's your favorite scary game?
Also, if you do get a chance to check out any of the articles I've already written, and dissagree with either the game or my take on it, please let me know your thoughts. I'd like to have a wrap-up article at the end of the month and I might be able to include your ideas.
Thanks!
Condemned 2, it filled me with all kinds of terror
Also, Resi 4 & 5 (not really scary, but F***ing amazing
Resident Evil 4
Saw just for the memories(yes i know its new)
And nobody put F.E.A.R. 2 in there? It won platinum for "Pee yourself game of the year"
(also took first in making teenage guys scream like girls)
Dead Space. It's just so amazing most of the time. Although, it's not really scary all the time, sometimes you will be all calm and then BOOM! Alien!
Lol. I almost posted without reading the orginal post.
System Shock 2 was amazing.
Umm. Dead Space? Haven't played it but it's supposed to be pretty *** good.
EDIT: Gah. Ninja'd.
Resident Evil or Doom 3
You know I recently did a piece like this for my school paper, The Shorthorn, and I included a lot of the games on your list.
I would have to put the Silent Hill games pretty high up there. The player vulnerability adds a great deal of stress and fear.
The Path
Vote for the top games of all time!
Everyone says Dead Space was scary, but I didn't jump out of my seat once in that game!
I don't know how many people will agree with me, but the scariest game I ever played was Resident Evil 3.
If being chased by a mutant zombie that's 99% unkillable throughout the entire game isn't scary, I don't know what is!
Resident Evil 4 wasn't scary, it was fun! I wish I played Fatal Frame or Silent Hill, because I'm in the mood for a good fright.
I don't have any now but when I was younger and whenever I attempted to play Resident Evil in the dark I was terrified and yes i had nightmares lol. But now that I'm older and played Resident Evil 5, I felt like I was a zommbie killing machine!
Hmmm. The few times I've played any of the Silent Hill games really freaked me out. I think those are great...
I stayed up all night with my friend to beat F.E.A.R. 2, and it was scary at first, but eventually it felt like it was all the same thing over and over again. I had a good time playing it though, it was definitely entertaining.
Resident Evil 5, Silent Hill, Parasite Eve, and Condemned are my favourites.
The Resident Evil remake gave me such a feeling of hopelessness.
What really scared me was not having unlimited resources (ammo, health, gas for lighting corpses on fire).
I couldn't even finish the game.
However, that game IS what TRUE survival horror is.
I like the RE series. REmake and Nemesis scared me the most. Also that recurring boss Mr. X was scary on RE2.
