Original Story (January 15 at 5:16 p.m. Central):

Roughly a month after Crystal Dynamics head Darrell Gallagher departed the Tomb Raider studio, another leader is joining him in the alumni ranks.

Today during the Friday news dump the official Tomb Raider tumblr announced that Rise of the Tomb Raider game director Brian Horton is leaving the studio to start a new project.

“It’s been a huge honor to be a part of the Tomb Raider franchise and the team at Crystal Dynamics,” Horton posted. “I’ve met fans from all over the world, both in person and online, to share in our love for the franchise and Lara Croft. After working on two amazing games, my family and I have decided to return to Southern California and start a new adventure. As sad as I am to leave the team at Crystal, I’m excited to play their future games as a fan. Thanks again for the years of support and feedback and I hope to stay in touch with you all online.”

We interviewed Horton while visiting Crystal Dynamics for the Rise of the Tomb Raider cover. You can watch that video below:

Our Take:
Losing Horton probably stings, but games are made by large teams of people and Rise of the Tomb Raider proved that Crystal Dynamics has a very talented team. We just hope this, the second departure from Crystal Dynamics, isn't a precursor to a larger sea change at the studio.
