Atlus Releases Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne As PS2 Classic
Yesterday, we mentioned that Atlus was teasing the release of a Shin Megami Tensei game on the PlayStation Network. Today we know that it’s the third in the core series.
Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne (released in Japan as Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne) is available today for download on the PlayStation Network in North America as a PS2 Classic. The title is playable on the PlayStation 3 and can be yours for $9.99.
Nocturne features the demon conversation mechanic that appears in many of the franchise titles. In order to acquire new party members you’ll need to “negotiate” with demons.
This title also takes place in contemporary Japan, which has been the setting for a number of Shin Megami Tensei titles. If you’re interested in a more recent title from the series. The fourth entry is on sale right now for 3DS on the eShop.
Our Take
The Shin Megami Tensei series has taken many different twists and turns, experimenting with different RPG styles. I came to the franchise late, but found myself enthralled with the story telling and demon negotiation mechanics. If you’ve only experienced Persona games, Nocturne is a bit different, but still worth your attention.
