East Meets West In Collaboration Featuring Mega Man And Ninja Gaiden Composers

by Mike Futter on Mar 03, 2014 at 02:51 PM

Indie label Brave Wave (previously known as Koopa Soundworks) has released a new album of original compositions from luminaries in the field of video game music. In Flux features collaborations that bridge east and west for unique sounds.

The album features 12 tracks, over half of which feature the combined efforts of multiple musicians. The project includes Mega Man and Mighty No. 9 composer Manami Matsumae, Tim McCord of Evanescence, Ninja Gaiden composer Keiji Yamagishi, Spelunky composer Elrik Suhrke, Sword & Sworcery’s Jim Guthrie, and more.

"Bounty Hunter is a song that is similar to what I did during the NES era,” says Keiji Yamagishi. “It feels like an outdated style, so I'm a bit embarrassed about it, actually. Slime Crust was Eirik's track as an FM oscillator, which made me happy. I like the FM oscillator. I left the main melody that Eirik made as is. It's not that different from my own music, really. Younger musicians are often doing new things, so I'm focused on doing and respecting what I am capable of doing."

You can give In Flux a listen on the Brave Wave bandcamp page. There, you can also purchase the album for download.
