Outlook For Baldur's Gate III Isn't Great
Last week, Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition was pulled from the app store. That game was just the first step in what developer Beamdog hoped was a path to creating Baldur's Gate III. However, with all of the contractual issues, Beamdog says that odds of a new entry are mixed.
In an interview with Rock Paper Shotgun, creative director Trent Oster said "The prognosis [for resuming work on Baldur's Gate] is mixed. Best case, we can sort this out soon. Worst case, this could be in legal hell for a while. I like making games, but this contractual dispute bulls--- keeps me up at night.”
The dispute means that Beamdog can't sell Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition. The company can't even patch the game for those who already bought it. If those two projects are held up, the prospect of Beamdog doing any work on a third installment is grim.
