Reader Discussion: What Makes A Great Special Edition?

by Joe Juba on May 23, 2013 at 09:57 AM

Today we got details on special editions for Grand Theft Auto V and Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. Both of them are full of bonuses, but getting consumers to pay extra money isn't easy. Over the years, publishers have included all kinds of extra content to entice people to spend a little more on special editions. Action figures, custom packaging, soundtracks, art books, day-one DLC, and exclusive in-game items have all been dangled in front of gamers in special editions.

Which, if any, of these bonuses can convince you to buy a special edition of a game? Is there anything you'd like to see included in special editions that hasn't been tried yet? Would you rather just see a single, definitive version of the game released without worrying about which edition you'll buy?
