Catherine Outsells Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 In Japan

If you thought Atlus' bizarre horror/adventure/puzzle game Catherine looked too weird to sell well, you may be underestimating the pull of strange things in Japan. As it turns out, the game has outsold Capcom's latest fighter in its first week on the shelves.

Kotaku reports that between February 14 and February 20, Catherine sold a respectable 141,826 copies on PS3, putting it at number one on the Media Create charts for the week. It also sold 21,936 copies on Xbox 360.

During the same period of time, Marvel vs. Capcom 3 -- the number two game on the charts -- sold 67,187 copies on PS3 and 13,779 copies on Xbox 360.

Since these numbers only cover the first week of sales for both titles, it's possible that MvC3 could pick up steam and overtake Catherine's oddity, but I'm not betting on it. For that handful of readers who can't stand that I keep doing stories about Catherine: I WIN.
