Nintendo’s Influence On Sega’s Mascot

Sonic has evolved quite a bit over the years. He started out as pudgy blue ball of spiked hair, and has turned into a somewhat more streamlined speed freak. That evolution hasn’t stopped.

In a recent interview with IGN, Takashi Iizuka, producer for Sega’s upcoming Sonic Colors said, “From a general game design perspective, in recent years we've been able to introduce Sonic to new fans, a lot of the Nintendo/Mario fans, and because of that, we've made changes to the design, and we've designed things in Sonic Colors that we think will really appeal to people who are unfamiliar with the Sonic brand and the Sonic gameplay."

Honestly, we find it kind of interesting that Sega feels the need to change Sonic to cater to an audience they – in reality – already had. What do you guys think? Does Sonic actually look any different in Sonic Colors?
