Over 5,000 StarCraft II Players Banned

by Phil Kollar on Oct 01, 2010 at 07:45 AM

Last month, Blizzard made a promise to eliminate cheaters from StarCraft II through banning when necessary. Today, we see that policy in action, as the developer has issued bans to over 5,000 StarCraft II players who were using cheats or hacks of some sort.

A post on the official StarCraft II website explained the reason for the new round of bans:

"In addition to undermining the spirit of fair competition that’s essential to play on Battle.net, cheating and hacking can lead to stability and performance issues with the service. Maintaining a stable, safe, and secure online-gaming experience for legitimate players is a top priority for us, and we'll be continuing to keep watch on Battle.net and take action as needed."

This is nothing new to Blizzard; the company has always been active about banning players who break the terms of service for Battle.net. Earlier in the year, before StarCraft II was even released, they banned over 300,000 Warcraft III and Diablo II players. If you're dumb enough to use hacks on a closed system like Battle.net, you're going to get caught and kicked from the service eventually.
