Classic Mario Compilation Coming To Japanese Wiis

by Bryan Vore on Sep 13, 2010 at 11:00 AM

Basically a straight port of Super Mario All-Stars is getting pressed to disc along with some bonus pack-ins to celebrate the gymnastically talented plumber's 25th anniversary.

On October 21, Super Mario Collection Special Pack will release in Japan for 2,500 yen (around $30). Just like All-Stars, it will contain 16-bit revamps of Super Mario Bros 1, 2, and 3, plus the maddeningly difficult Lost Levels (the original Japanese SMB 2).

So what's in it for Nintendo fans who already own all of these games? A separate soundtrack CD with tracks from the original SMB all the way to Galaxy 2, plus an art and history book should do the trick. Controller options are wide open, with compatibility including the Wii remote, classic controller, the pro, and the Gamecube controller. Will anyone really try to play classic Mario with that shrimpy 'Cube d-pad?

No U.S. release announcements have been made, but it would be pure insanity not to bring this cash cow collection Stateside. And Nintendo has extra incentive to get it out by the end of the year to stay within the 25th anniversary timeframe.
