The racing MMO has hit a million registered users, and EA and developer Black Box are celebrating by letting people play it for free.

Of course, you can give yourself a boost by paying for premium content like power-ups and rental cars, but that's up to you. The game's free portion was previously capped at level 10. For those who've already bought the starter pack, you'll get a three free coupons good for seven-day rentals of the BMW M3 GTR, the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4, and the Audi R8 4.2 FSI Quattro.

The game has no plans of slowing down, as the developer has also announced that new content is coming soon. Need for Speed World players can expect a co-op pursuit mode called Team Escape, more cars, a new areas (including a full day/night cycle), community leaderboards, and performance customization options.
