Gran Turismo 5 Has A Huge Optional Installation

by Joe Juba on Aug 29, 2010 at 07:40 AM

Gran Turismo guru Kazunori Yamauchi confirmed via Twitter that the highly anticipated (and long-in-production) racing sim needs 10 GB of hard drive space for the smoothest play experience.

If you don't have that much room on your hard drive (for those of use with launch PS3s, space is at a premium), you can still play the game. But even without installing anything, you'll need 256 MB of free space just to run the game off the disc. If you don't have that much, you seriously need to go through and delete some junk.

Yamauchi didn't clarify what exactly those 10 GB will be used for when the game is installed. I'd assume it will mitigate loading between races and such; fans would revolt if the game needs that much space just to get your car around the track without stuttering.

If nothing else, we'll know for sure when GT 5 releases on November 2.
