Surprise DeathSpank Sequel Coming In September

by Matt Helgeson on Aug 23, 2010 at 06:52 AM

DeathSpank, the gonzo action/RPG collaboration between Monkey Island creator Ron Gilbert and Hothead Games, has been garnering (mostly) strong reviews so far. Hothead is now looking to keep the momentum going with a surprise sequel to the game, DeathSpank: Thongs of Virtue, which will release on PlayStation Network (Sept. 21) and Xbox Live (Sept. 22) next month. While it's unusual to see a sequel coming so quickly on the heels of the original, the game was originally planned as an episodic series. In fact, producer Hamish Millar revealed to Gamespot that Thong of Virtue was actually competed prior to the release of DeathSpank. He also hinted that the game will have an even greater emphasis on over-the-top action and ridiculous weapons (if that is indeed possible).

This is certainly great news, though the larger future of the franchise is a bit in doubt following the recent news that Gilbert and Hothead have parted ways.

DeathSpank: Thongs of Virtue will retail for $14.99 or 1,200 Microsoft points.
