Another Two Combatants Join Marvel Vs. Capcom 3

by Andrew Reiner on Aug 18, 2010 at 02:10 AM

The roster for Marvel vs. Capcom 3 continues to expand at an alarming rate. Are there still notable characters to add from both universes?

The answer is yes, but I have to question one of today's additions.

Every Capcom fan out there expected to see Viewtful Joe on the roster. Although his games are no longer on store shelves, he remains one of Capcom's most recognizable and loved characters. I give Capcom a thumbs up on this one.

With that said, I don't think any Marvel Comics fan expected to see Dormammu in a next gen video game. I read Marvel comics every week, and I only have a vague idea of who he is. According to Marvel's website, Dormammu also goes by the names The Dread One, The Great Enigma, Flyx, Eater of Souls, Lord of Chaos, and Lord of Darkness. I'm not even going to try to report on his origin story. Here's what Marvel's website has to say about that:

"Born untold thousands or even millions of years ago in the dimension of the vastly powerful energy-entities called the Faltine, Dormammu and his sibling Umar gathered matter to themselves to increase their power, a practice anathema to their fellow Faltine. Ultimately slaying their parent Sinifer, they were driven from their home dimension and assumed human form to explore others. Their search for conquests brought them to the Dark Dimension, a mystic realm riddled with natural warps into pocket universes within the dimension itself. At the time of their arrival, the Dark Dimension’s multi-species society had been at peace for almost 28,000 years and was in the third millennium of the rule of King Olnar."

So...there you have it. I can name a hundred Marvel characters that I would rather see in the game, but someone at Capcom must love this guy. I'll reserve my judgment on him until I play as him in the game, but i just have to say, if Capcom wanted a flame-headed character, why not pick Ghost Rider?
