We Get Medieval With The Sims

by Ben Reeves on Aug 17, 2010 at 11:10 AM

When EA first announced that The Sims franchise would be going back to the middle ages, my inner child nearly wet the bed with glee over the idea of participating In jousting tournaments and hunting wild dragons. While I don't know if any dragons will be in the game yet, you will be able slap a king in the face in order to win a maiden's honor.

In the Sims Medieval, players will have free reign over an entire kingdom. When you first start out, your fiefdom might be small, but as you progress you'll be able to build up castles, chapels, wizard towers, and an apothecary.

Sims who practice medicine will be able to string other sims up on racks to drain them of blood or apply leaches to get rid of disease and other evil spirits. Over in the dungeon, I saw a Sim who had been particularly bad and slandered the king. He had been put up in the stocks so passersby could throw rotten fruit at his face.

After this, our sim wandered over to the castle, where we could see noblemen and courtesans milling about. In The Sims Medieval, the sims will be able to take part in a variety of tasks to accomplish a variety of dreams and aspirations. Our Sim wandered over to the king and challenged him to a duel, in order to win the heart of a blushing queen. Once the duel was accepted, a fight broke out between the two men, but we were still be able to choose what kind of attacks would help guide our sim to victory.

Like the Sims 3, The Sims Medieval features all the freeform, choose-your-own gameplay that we've grown to love. It's like playing with a dollhouse, but respectable for an adult. No word yet on whether this entry will be headed for consoles, but we have our fingers crossed for that March deadline.
