Crysis 2 Gets Special Editions

by Matt Miller on Aug 17, 2010 at 06:52 AM

Crytek's upcoming shooter is getting not one, but two, snazzy versions with all sorts of extras.

The Crysis 2 Limited Edition won't cost you anything above and beyond the normal price tag, but EA will only be releasing a small number of these copies, presumably in an effort to have gamers buy early. The Limited Edition will have its own special packaging, and will include a number of in-game rewards. You'll start with enough bonus XP to access all five preset class load outs. You'll get an in-game hologram decoy that can be deployed to confuse enemies, and a special camouflage skin for one of the assault rifles in the game. Lastly, you'll get a platinum dog tag – one of 250 that can be found in multiplayer. So, you know, you can brag to other gamers about your platinum dog tag after they shoot you.

The higher-end version is the Crysis 2 Nano Edition. This deluxe explosion of content will cost you $149.99. It includes the aforementioned Limited Edition in a steel case, along with an 11" statue of "Prophet," the game's protagonist, as he perches heroically atop a New York taxi cab (there is no other way to perch atop a New York taxi cab). You'll also get an art book and a backpack that looks like the nanosuit, assuring plenty of compliments from the opposite sex at school the next day as people compare you to "that guy from that one video game." It's going to be great. This scintillating package won't be available in stores – you'll need to preorder the game to receive it.

No matter what version you spring for, Crysis 2 is headed to PS3, 360, and PC, with options for 2D or 3D play, on March 22, 2011.
