Transformers MMORPG Rolling Out In 2011

by Andrew Reiner on Aug 03, 2010 at 07:05 AM

NetDragon, the Chinese developer tasked to bring EA's Dungeon Keeper franchise to the MMO arena, is also working on a Transformers MMORPG for 2011 release. As of now, NetDragon only plans to publish Transformers Online in China, and other select markets in Asian, Russia/CIS, and MENA. Of course, you can never rule out the interest of a western publisher, especially with a brand as big as Transformers.

No other details have been given at the moment. I hope Netdragon is working within the Generation 1 timeline, but outside of Activision's recently released War for Cybertron game, it would appear Hasbro is making a strong push for all things Transformers to tie in with the motion picture timeline. The latest batch of toys and the upcoming television series Transformers: Primed are at least partially based on Michael Bay's vision.

Regardless of what it ends up being, this is an exciting announcement for Transformers fans. NetDragon's chairman and executive director Liu Dejian certainly sounds excited. “As a brand and a cultural icon, Transformers is already a household name in China, and we are extremely honored to be able to join hands with Hasbro to bring the excitement and fanaticism of Transformers into the online gaming sector," Dejian said. "We firmly believe that through the hard work of NetDragon’s passionate and creative employees, we will be able to create a game that will stand the test of time for Transformers fans and hobbyists around the globe.”
