What May Lie In Cybertron's Future

by Annette Gonzalez on Jul 23, 2010 at 12:45 AM

During this year's Comic-Con, High Moon Studios and Activision announced new characters and maps for Transformers: War for Cybertron. We got a chance to chat with Matt Tieger, game director at High Moon about the upcoming DLC pack and the future of the Transformers game franchise.

The DLC pack will include characters Jazz, Demolisher, and Shockwave that were originally reserved for pre-order bonuses plus Onslaught and Scattershot, all of which can be played in the game's multiplayer modes. Tieger says Onslaught and Scattershot were chosen among the long list of possible characters to provide more customization as a player. Without the DLC you only have one Autobot so now you'll have more choices.

Two new deathmatch maps are on the way as well as two for Escalation mode. These modes are completely original and not in any way repurposing of any of the single-player locales, Tieger says.

When asked about future DLC, Tieger remained tight-lipped about the possibility of future downloads. What we do know is this pack will be available July 27.

Now that the game has been released and has received critical praise it would be a natural step for High Moon Studios to perhaps try its hand at a different beloved franchise, however Tieger says the company is sticking to Transformers.

"I would love to continue to deal with Transformers, Tieger says. "It’s an area where we feel like we’ve carved out some credibility. There's a lot of time and effort spent on understanding the franchise and really nailing it with the fans. I feel like I would love to continue to capitalize on that."

"I would very happily hang on to Cybertron for another five games," he explains. "When making a game you have to make some tough choices on what goes in and what doesn’t. There’s so many areas we didn’t go to with yet-to-be-determined stories."
