EA Press Conference Live Blog - Six New Games Announced

by Phil Kollar on Jul 20, 2010 at 10:10 AM

Electronic Arts has announced that they will be revealing six new games at a press conference today. The event begins at 1 p.m. Pacific (3 p.m. Central), and we'll be covering all of the announcements as they happen right here. Stay tuned.

4:10 - Giving shoutouts to some EA executives in the crowd. I think that's all! Stay tuned to Game Informer for more details on all the games announced here and more from Comic-Con.

4:09 - EA Sports stuff is done now. Phew. Jeff Brown is back on stage.

4:08 - The producer is playing the game, wearing the same leg and armbands you wear while playing EA Sports Active. The linebacker is confirming that the stuff on screen is just like at training camp. He says the producer did a good job.

4:07 - Playing with real NFL players and doing their real drills to figure out whether you're ready for the NFL. (Hint: Probably not. Sorry.) The producer is coming on stage along with a real NFL linebacker who I don't know.

4:06 - They just announced EA Sports Active: NFL Training Camp. Worked with the NFL to make realistic training camp activities.

4:05 - The tag line they're trying to push in Madden 11 is "Simpler. Quicker. Deeper." They're also putting Madden on the iPad and 3DS.

4:03 - "Madden is a pretty game, and it always has been a pretty game," but they are overhauling the audio presentation to make that aspect of the game better. Team-specific chants, better commentary. Building "from the ground up" to make sure it's the best Madden ever.

4:02 - I guess the graphics look good in Madden 11? They don't show much else. They're talking about game flow, which they say allows you to make a gameplan for any situation. Also showing off new locomotion and dual stick control. "Players will accelerate and decelerate in a more authentic fashion."

4:01 - They're showing a Madden 11 trailer now. Lots of fans cheering and people running with this ball thing. I know lots about football.

4:00 - Fight Night Champion will be out in 2011. Now we're on to Madden 11.

3:58 - They want to explore the darker, grittier side of boxing, as seen in various boxing documentaries. They're rethinking the single-player experience to put in more drama. So Fight Night with a story mode maybe?

3:57 - Sounds like they'll be talking about the new Fight Night now. They don't want to forget their "long legacy" of boxing. Fight Night Champion announced.

3:56 - MMA fighter Bas Rutten is on stage now talking about how authentic the game is. He's mostly just talking about the pictures of him that they have on screen.

3:54 - Gyms in Brazil, Thailand, the United Kingdom, Japan, etc. Fights all across the world too. Different rules in different locations. Online mode will use EA Sports Live Broadcast to have spectators and live commentary.

3:53 - Trailer showing off the career mode. Create a fighter, train, compete. You can use a photo mode to make the fighter look like you. Training based on real life training.

3:52 - We're starting with Jason Barnes and Rocky Rivero talking about EA Sports MMA. They're going to show off the career mode. Two fundamental pillars: "authenticity and the global nature of the sport."

3:51 - "Continue to challenge our teams in their commitment to innovate for the core...but at the same time be able to deliver new experiences for new audiences."

3:50 - Four brand-new EA Sports games. Apparently Peter Moore is not here to show them off. EA guy is making jokes about Moore being stuck at home nursing a new tattoo. LOLs.

3:47 - "Genre-changing combat" is their intent according to Ken Rolston. They're showing the first trailer for the game, but apparently we can't see it until Comic-Con. Boo!

3:46 - They're showing off some concept art for the game now. Cool-looking, but I hope we'll see something in-game. Oh, hey, there's a screenshot! Very stylish, colorful. Focus on combat and action.

3:45 - Reckoning will be shown off at Comic-Con this week. They'll also be giving away a Todd McFarlane poster.

3:44 - R.A. Salvatore and Todd McFarlane are both involved with this game, as well as Ken Rolston, the lead designer from the last two Elder Scrolls games.

3:42 - Curt Schilling is going to be showing off his new game which got a name earlier today, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.

3:41 - Shank announced for release on August 24 for PSN and August 25 for XBLA. Woo! I played a demo of that game, and it's a ton of fun. The lead artist from Klei is at EA today and will be putting renditions of press people into the game. Crazy.

3:40 - Now the EA Partners guy is mentioning how we should be sure to check out Rock Band 3. They're also going to be showing off some Crysis 2 stuff. Multiplayer will be revealed at GamesCon, but they'll be showing off some single-player today.

3:39 - Alice is shown sitting. She doesn't look good. Then she opens her mouth and a bunch of blood and teeth pour out. Okay then!

3:38 - Alice will be in Wonderland and London. They're going to be doing a series of small teasers starting with one they're showing now.

3:37 - Alice: Madness Returns coming to PC, PS3, and 360. Really beautiful screens being shown. The art design in this is definitely killer.

3:36 - American McGee is on stage to talk about Alice.

3:35 - Huge list of independent developers who have taken part in the EA Partners program. They're thanking these guys for being such high-quality partners. Now they're announcing the new Alice game. Hooray!

3:34 - Looks like we'll be doing some EA Partners stuff now. I'm a fan of this program; excited to see what they've got in the works.

3:33 - Ignition will be available for download this fall. Hope you're ready for some mini-games, people!

3:31 - Showing off the Trace Route mini-game. You play a red electrical signal that needs to avoid stuff in the environment and hit boosts to beat a blue electrical signal. I'm sure this is how actual electrical engineering works, right?

3:30 - Male and female lead have some sort of romantic history. It's a bit heavy-handed. Also, there's a mechanic dude who's heavily accented. I bet he ends up being a bad guy.

3:29 - Terrible "That's what she said" joke in the video. Laughter from Jeff Cork. Figures.

3:28 - Hardware Crack, System Override, and Trace Route - three puzzle games you'll be playing throughout the course of Ignition. They're playing a video of the opening story.

3:27 - Four different endings, each with exclusive Dead Space 2 unlocks, including a new suit that you can only get by playing Ignition.

3:26 - "Our goal was to create a living, breathing universe" with Dead Space. Dead Space: Ignition is a part of that. Showing some artwork -- it will have a very comic book style. Kind of cool-looking. You have to survive the initial Necromorph outbreak on the Sprawl.

3:25 - Moving on to a PlayStation Network and Xbox Live downloadable game. It's the Dead Space prelude that was previously announced.

3:24 - Heavy focus on replay. They've got an AI director that determines what enemies are spawned in, how many, how difficult, etc.

3:23 - The creature on screen is hacking through tons of bad guys. You pick up DNA, which is the game's equivalent of gold. You also pick up catalysts, which give you temporary buffs. Quantum enemies are difficult to attack with melee, so they switch to a ranged creature to finish them.

3:22 - They're doing a live demo of Darkspore now. Top-down view similar to Diablo. You can actually warp in different heroes from your squad at any point. You'll be able to use abilities from other characters in your squad even when they aren't summoned.

3:20 - Darkspore will be about loot, like any good action-RPG, but you'll actually be collecting parts to upgrade your genetically created heroes. You can play solo, but it's focused on co-op play.

3:19 - A creepy monster creature is created on-screen. Yep, it's Darkspore. Lucy Bradshaw, general manager from Maxis, is now on stage to talk about this PC action-RPG game. "Not an extension of Spore, but it was inspired by and shares some of the unique technology we created for Spore."

3:18 - Another trailer on now for a Maxis game. I'm guessing this is the just-announced Darkspore.

3:17 - Trailer for Sims 3 Late Night playing now. Loud music and lots of dancing and drinking. A bar fight breaks out. They show a vampire lady briefly too and a couple making out in a hot tub. I guess Joe will like this?

3:16 - Uh, Late Night also adds vampires to the Sims. Twilight, much?

3:15 - The Sims 3 Late Night expansion pack shipping this fall for PC. You can get night jobs, go to parties, etc.

3:14 - Rod Humble from EA Play is on talking about the console versions of The Sims 3.

3:12 - And we're off! The announcements are beginning.
