Atomic Games' Breach Delayed

by Jeff Cork on Jul 16, 2010 at 03:03 AM

It looks like players hoping to get their hands on Atomic Games' destruction-filled shooter, Breach, are going to have to be a bit more patient. The developer today announced that the XBLA and PC title has been delayed from a planned June release to January. Of course, now that July is practically over now, you probably already realized something was amiss. The team says that the deadline extension is allowing them to incorporate elements from their military-training side projects into the game.

"While work on Breach is actually done, we did miss our small window with Microsoft to get it up on Xbox LIVE Arcade for Xbox 360 in late June as we had planned," says Peter Tamte, President of Atomic Games. "Luckily there were features we had been thinking of adding to the title, and now we have the opportunity to do just that. Unlike with Six Days in Fallujah, which was delayed indefinitely when Konami pulled out, we are publishing Breach ourselves, and it will be out in January. I've always said, we don't make simulations for the public and we don't make games for the government. However, we have come to realize there is a growing segment of the gaming population that wants to test these simulation systems out for themselves, which is why we're adding features, like a Hardcore mode, to Breach."

In addition to getting attention from its ties with the canceled shooter Six Days in Fallujah, Breach grabbed headlines after a would-be thief attempted to download the game's code from a demo kiosk at PAX. That plan failed.
