Tim Schafer Calls Activision's Kotick A "P---k"

by Matthew Kato on Jul 14, 2010 at 04:50 AM

Double Fine's Tim Schafer has had his share of run-ins with Activision CEO Bobby Kotick, and recently he had some things to say about Activision's controversial leader.

In an interview with Eurogamer, Schafer remembers not-so-fondly his time working with Activision when the publisher was going to put out Brutal Legend. "I never actually talked to them, really! I never actually met them, it was all lawyers." When asked about Kotick in particular, Schafer didn't hold back."His obligation is to his shareholders. Well, he doesn't have to be as much of a d--k about it, does he? I think there is a way he can do it without being a total p--ck. It seems like it would be possible. It's not something he's interested in."

There's no love lost between Schafer and Activision. Brutal Legend was originally going to be put out by Vivendi before it merged with Activision. Once that took place, Activision dropped the game, which was subsequently picked up by competitor Electronic Arts. Activision tried to sue to stop the game's release, but an out-of-court settlement was reached instead.
