Molyneux Shows Off New Milo Demo

by Matt Helgeson on Jul 13, 2010 at 09:15 AM

While the virtual lad was missing from this year’s Microsoft E3 press conference, Peter Molyneux’s Milo project is alive and well. At TEDGlobal 2010, an annual conference about forward thinking technology held in Oxford, England, the famed game creator treated the crowd to a brand-new Milo demo.

The good news? As compared to the demo shown at E3 2009, the onstage interactions with Milo appeared to be much less scripted, suggesting that Molyneux’s goal of creating real, unscripted AI conversations is possible.

During the demo, Molyneux and a volunteer interacted with Milo, teaching him how to skip rocks and even helping with the unenviable task of cleaning his room. And, just to show that the project features the sometimes icky moral decisions that Molyneux’s games are known for, the volunteer even convinced Milo to crush a snail. Hmm…we suspect this game is going to reveal some pretty bad parenting instincts amongst gamers.

A video of the demonstration is scheduled to be posted on the TEDGlobal official blog later in the week.
