Yes, You Can Sit Down And Play Kinect

by Joe Juba on Jul 07, 2010 at 09:55 AM

Coming out of E3, gamers had many questions about what exactly Kinect can and can't do. One of the most popular rumors was that you would need to stand up to use the device – a restriction many gamers felt would eliminate the possibility of traditional gaming. Well, no need to throw away your couch yet; Microsoft has confirmed that you can still sit and play Kinect.

In a statement to Joystiq, a Microsoft representative dispelled the rumor: "Kinect can be used while sitting when an experience is developed with sitting in mind." In other words, games can be developed for seated users, so you won't necessarily be jumping around with every Kinect title you play.

Despite the clarification, clearly Microsoft's goal is that Kinect won't keep gamers stationary. If the games the publisher showcased at E3 are any indication, experiences where you just sit back and chill out are likely to be the exception rather than the rule.
