Microsoft Announces Star Wars Title For Kinect

by Ben Reeves on Jun 14, 2010 at 08:55 AM

When Nintendo announced the Wii just a few years ago, the ultimate Star Wars game seemed like it was just around the corner. Fast forward a few years and that promise is still unfulfilled. Perhaps Microsoft feels like it can do better. Microsoft just announced a Star Wars title at its Cirque Du Soleil Kinect unveiling, and it looks like might be doing – at least a few things – better than Nintendo.

We don’t have a name for this mystery Star Wars game yet, but the demo started out with a young Jedi landing on what looked like Naboo, during the middle of a battle. Using only gestures, it looks like the player will be able to utilize certain force powers like the force push, force dash, and a force nova similar to what we’ve seen Starkiller do in the Force Unleashed. The demo ended with a light saber battle against Darth Vader. We’ve haven’t gotten our hands on the game yet, but the control movements looked fluid and responsive, though looks can be deceiving in that area.

The only other things we should comment on is the fact that the whole game looks to be on rails, as it seemed like the Jedi wasn’t free to deviate from a pre-determined path. So while Microsoft may have figured out how lightsaber battles work, it  somehow forgot how to walk sideways in the process.
