Gears of War 3 Demoed Live

by Matt Miller on Jun 14, 2010 at 08:21 AM

Bleszinski just finished up demoing Gears of War 3 at the Microsoft press briefing, and the game looks as good as you hoped it would.

The new demo revealed the Anvil Game level of the game, and showed off the new 4-player co-op that will be a highlight of this final installment of the trilogy. Anvil Gate is also the name of one of the upcoming Gears of War books, so we'll no doubt learn more info about the location before Gears 3 releases next April.

As Bleszinski and his fellow Epic Games developers played on stage, the level revealed Delta team as they assaulted the old fortress. Along the way, the expected intense battles ensued, with Marcus and friends taking cover and firing away at Locust attackers. It didn't take long for the action to heat up. We saw Marcus take one of the Locust as a body shield, and take out its companions. We also saw the new weapon trading ability, that lets players move close to each other to exchange guns and ammo.

The real fun started when the Lambent showed up. Bursting from the ground in massive stalks, the lambent drones poured out to attack locust and human alike. The first lambent was a writhing mass of tentacles and firepower, tearing apart a locust that got in his way. Delta was forced to fire wildly at the creatures' many appendages to take it down.

Not long after, a huge new enemy appeared. The lambent berserker arrived with a screaming roar, and proceeded to charge and leap about with incredible speed. This new heavy enemy looked like quite the challenge, but the Hammer of Dawn helped to make short work of him. Unfortunately, that left Delta charging into the fort amid blasts from the powerful weapon, along with the appearance of what looked like another frenzied berserker.

Before leaving the stage, Bleszinski promised a new game mode to be revealed on the E3 show floor. The new multiplayer mode is called Beast, and we should have more details on it later this week. In the meantime, if you're not caught up on Gears of War 3, make sure and check out our game hub from our recent cover story.
