Dreamcast Games Make A Digital Comeback

by Annette Gonzalez on Jun 10, 2010 at 06:40 AM

Today Sega has announced that it will bring classic Dreamcast titles to XBLA and PSN beginning later this year.

Sonic Adventure and Crazy Taxi will be the first games made available, with the Sonic Adventure resurrection releasing this fall in time for the Dreamcast's 11th anniversary. Both will be shown at E3 next week.

“The Dreamcast is fondly remembered by a large community of dedicated fans as a console that was ahead of its time in terms of graphics, quality and online gaming” said Haruki Satomi, VP of Digital Business at SEGA of America and SEGA Europe. “There are few things that are more requested from us than making Dreamcast classics available for download in today’s digital market place. We’re very excited to begin offering gamers our beloved Dreamcast titles again on the current console systems.”

The Dreamcast downloadables will feature the same gameplay of their originals with enhanced visual quality and sound. Online leaderboards will also be implemented along with an Achievement/Trophy system unique to each game.

Before the Dreamcast met its early demise, the system launched more than 650 games. We wonder which others will be chosen to make its return to the current gen. My vote is to bring back Jet Grind Radio and Space Channel 5. Any Dreamcast favorites you'd like to see make a comeback?
