Sega: EA’s Online Pass Deal Is “Very Clever”

by Tim Turi on Jun 04, 2010 at 10:59 AM

When EA announced their Online Pass deal, which asks purchasers of used games to fork out $10 for online play, it was met with mixed reactions. Gamers reacted negatively for the most part, and publishers reacted positively. Sega is stepping out as one of those companies that is interested in the practice.

“It is a very clever idea and is something we are certainly taking a look at,” said Mike Hayes, Sega’s Western president.

Sega joins Ubisoft, THQ, and Take Two as a publisher interested in securing profit from second hand sales.

The question is, what online-heavy games would Sega be able to charge consumers $10 for access to multiplayer?
