World Of Warcraft Out-Of-Game Auctions To Cost $3 A Month

Earlier this year Blizzard announced that they would be introducing a way of accessing the in-game auction house in World of Warcraft while logged out. That service has officially launched in its first phase, allowing you to explore the auction house on any browser or from your iPhone. The ability to actually bid or create auctions is still coming...and it's going to cost money.

Right now you can visit the WOW Armory and browse any current auctions as well as getting updates on when your auctions have sold or when you've won an auction. You can also check out all the items you have in your various bags and bank slots.

Want to actually bid on an auction or put an item up for auction without logging in? Unfortunately, that functionality isn't quite ready, but when it is, it's going to come at a price: $2.99 a month to access the improved subscription version of World of Warcraft Remote.

It's also worth noting that Blizzard is putting a cap on the number of transactions possible through the remote auction house each day. In order to curb any potential abuse, you'll only be able to do 25 transactions a day through the beta period, though that number will rise to 200 per day once the final version of the service has launched.

Are you willing to pay a small extra fee on top of your monthly MMO subscription to have access to out-of-game services such as the remote auction house?

  • I love you Blizzard but will you ever create anything for free?

  • sounds cool

  • dude Blizzard is going to be able to BUY EARTH if they keep this up geesh

  • Blizzard buy the earth? hmm... I wouldn't mind.

  • I don't know if it's still a big element, but back in the day auction house sharks were crazy... players with so much gold would just claim an item (or multiple items) as "theirs", and buy up any that were being sold for less than their appointed price. I remember people getting crazy with that... I doubt those people ever got off their computer anyway, but if they did... now they won't have to worry about losing their edge when they step out of the house x.x

  • As Chris said, does Blizzard create anything for free?  Ever?

  • I pity WoW players.

  • Does Blizzard ever create anything for free? Umm... Battle.net?

  • This will make it easier for the IRS to seize your virtual assets should you fail to report taxable income on such transactions.

  • /facepalm

  • WoW isn't that great in my personal opinion.

  • nope

  • It should be noted that the beta does not work for all Realms as of yet.

  • Wish I had the money to start subscribing to MMOs.

  • Lame

  • ...And with this, Blizzard keeps finding ways to make even more money,

  • Blizzard is just a selfish company. They should be able to lower the cost of WoW to $10 per month they make so much. You at least would think that for those who pay $15 a month would have more features for free.

  • cool?

  • this service should be free considering that gamers are purchasing items from the auction

  • remember this is ACTIVISION blizzard we're talking about it. Keyword here being Bobbyvision
