Xbox Profits Big In Recent Fiscal Quarter

by Tim Turi on Apr 23, 2010 at 07:05 AM

Third quarter of fiscal 2010, which ended March 31, was very good to Microsoft and the Xbox division. Microsoft’s Entertainment and Devices Division, which includes Xbox operations, raked in $165 million for Microsoft. Additionally, 40 million Xbox 360s have been sold in the console’s lifespan.

Xbox’s $165 million profit is a hefty improvement compared to Q3 2009’s loss of $41 million. So what helped Microsoft this year? Xbox Live is pointed to as the lifeblood behind the profits, along with an increase in Xbox production efficiency.

News that more than 40 million 360s are out there is evidence to Microsoft’s success in the console manufacturing business. The PC software company has come a long way since the first dabbling in video games back in 2001. Nice work, Microsoft!
