E-Mails Out For World Of Warcraft: Catacylsm Beta

by Phil Kollar on Apr 07, 2010 at 12:56 PM

If you've been listening to recent episodes of Game Informer's World of Warcraft and MMO podcast, Respec Radio, you know that around the office, we're mopping up the last bits of content Blizzard has offered up in the Wrath of the Lich King expansion pack. We're eager to get started on the hit MMORPG's third expansion, Cataclysm, and an e-mail we received today suggests that we might not have to wait much longer.

Starting today, Blizzard is sending out e-mails inviting World of Warcraft players to opt in for the Cataclysm beta. They note that they "do not currently have a date to announce for the start of the beta test," but if opt-ins are being sent out, we're hopeful that the beta is relatively close.

This also makes us wonder if the full expansion pack may be launching earlier than expected. With previous betas for World of Warcraft and its expansions, the beta started just a few months before the final product was released. Could we be experiencing Azeroth's great Cataclysm before the summer is through?

The beta opt-in also notes that there will not be any sort of NDA on the Cataclysm beta, which means as soon as we're in, we'll be bringing you all of the information, screenshots, and video that we can. Who else can't wait?
