Steam Probably Coming To Mac

by Adam Biessener on Feb 25, 2010 at 07:02 AM

Clues pointing toward Valve porting its popular Steam digital delivery/community service to the Macintosh platform are mounting. Valve programmer Chris Green's LinkedIn profile proclaims that they are "REALLY looking for senior Linux + Mac engineers," while the public beta for Steam's upcoming interface revamp contains inactive images for Mac-specific elements, as reported by Mac enthusiast website MacNN.

Valve has yet to announce anything, but the evidence is all out there on the Internet. There's an awful lot of smoke for there not to be any fire for this particular rumor.

The idea that Valve might support Mac gaming before PlayStation 3 is deliciously amusing. With Apple's massive investment in the iTunes Store and its App Store subsection, though, you have to wonder what storm is brewing on the horizon. My guess is that Apple doesn't care about gaming on its desktop platform any more than it ever has, and that as long as Valve stays out of its iPad/iPod/iPhone business, nobody's kneecaps are going to get broken.
