Madden 11 Cover Candidates Revealed

by Matt Bertz on Feb 04, 2010 at 06:24 AM

EA Sports and marketing partner Doritos finally pulled the curtain away from the Madden NFL 11 cover candidates. No surprises here. Click to find out which three NFL superstars have a shot at ruining their team's season next year!

Drew Brees - Quarterback, New Orleans Saints

Despite putting up record numbers at Purdue, Drew Brees lasted until the end of the second round in the NFL Draft over concerns about his height. When he didn't blossom into an immediate superstar, the San Diego Chargers drafted Philip Rivers in the first round to take his place. Motivated by the San Diego's lack of commitment to his development, Brees set the league on fire after Rivers held out, becoming the rare Pro Bowl quarterback to hit free agency a year later. Since then, Brees has been a transformational athlete, embracing the decimated city of New Orleans as his own and turning its moribund football team into a perennial contender with his stellar play. Given the fact that he led New Orleans to its first Super Bowl birth and became the first quarterback to finish a season with a completion percentage above 70 percent, Brees is the early favorite.

Reggie Wayne - Wide Receiver, Indianapolis Colts

Reggie Wayne is the rare wide receiver breed who doesn't constantly beg for attention, pout when he doesn't get the football, or perform sit-ups in his front lawn surrounded by a flock of media in the offseason. Once a part of the most feared wide receiver duo in the NFL with future Hall of Famer Marvin Harrison, Wayne's gaudy numbers didn't fall off when Harrison suddenly retired. He instead took his game to another level. Known as Peyton Manning's favorite target, the four-time Pro Bowler is one of the most consistent playmakers in the NFL, posting all-pro numbers year in and year out. Given his humble attitude, he may not seem like an ideal candidate for a spokesman, but Wayne's unquestioned dedication to the game of football would make a great ambassador for the sport.

Jared Allen - Defensive End, Minnesota Vikings

The dark horse candidate is Jared Allen, the Minnesota Vikings' relentless hillbilly defensive end. After a troubled beginning to his career in Kansas City, where was busted for two DUIs in a span of five months, the Vikings traded for Allen, adding him to its collection of Pro Bowl interior lineman to form the most formidable defensive front in the league. The only defensive player in contention, Allen consistently ranks among the top sack leaders every year. Known for his carefree personality and relentless pursuit, Allen credits much of his success to his mullet haircut. An avid outdoorsman, Allen may be the only NFL player to ever grace the cover of Madden who has killed a wild boar. With a knife.
