Sideshow And Adam Hughes Team Up On Tomb Raider

by Meagan Marie on Jan 25, 2010 at 06:00 AM

Following the debut of DC Direct’s Arkham Asylum tribute, we’ve been given another glimpse at a gaming-related goodie. Iconic comic book artist Adam Hughes is once again teaming up with Sideshow Collectibles for a new project. This time, however, he is  trading the usual buxom comic babe for one from the video-game realm – Lara Croft.

The piece will be sculpted from the black and white concept art below, featuring Croft taking a breather from her world travels. If you happen to be a collector of such pieces, the first thing you will probably notice (in the above digital painting of the actual sculpt) is that Lara’s got face. It’s notoriously tough to pull off nuance and expression on such small surface, but veteran sculptor Tim Miller has her look down pat. Hughes and Miller have collaborated several  times in the past few years, putting out high-demand tributes to Rogue, the Black Queen, She-Hulk and Mystique.

Hughes has fleshed out Lara’s visage before, most notably when working on a string of covers for the Tomb Raider comic by Top Cow. He’s also published several pinups of Lady Lara for the official Tomb Raider and PlayStation Magazine.

Unfortunately, we don’t have any further details pertaining to a release window, dimensions or price point. We expect that the final piece will be in line with other Sideshow comiquettes that Hughes and Miller have collaborated on, so a $149.99 plus sticker wouldn’t be surprising. Hell, I shelled out $249.99 for this piece alone.

Any collectors out there planning on a pre-order?
