UPDATE: Hasbro responded to our request for comment, and has confirmed that a small line of War for Cybertron figures will release this year.
The official statement reads: "In 2010, Hasbro will be introducing a limited assortment of Transformers figures tied to Activision’s War for Cybertron game. At this moment, this is all that we can share with you. We appreciate your understanding."
ORIGINAL STORY: Toy collectors will be happy to hear that Hasbro will likely release several toy figures connected to the upcoming Transformers: War for Cybertron video game. If confirmed, the new line will include Autobots Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, and Drift, while the evil forces of the Decepticons get new Megatron and Soundwave toys. All five of the figures are in the Deluxe class, a size that has traditionally been sold for between $10 and $20 (usually $12.99). The image shown here is supposedly an unfinished prototype of the Optimus Prime figure. The news comes via a post at Transformers World 2005 that has since disappeared, and the image via seibertron.com.
For now, the information should be considered a likely, but unconfirmed rumor.
There may be more figures on the way. The new toy line would represent the first time that a full line of Transformers toys had been created for an exclusively video game project. Are you a collector? Would you pick up figures connected to the new game?
It looks... kinda cheapened and kiddie. Not at all what I was hoping for. But it is only one pic... hopefully they get nice enough to add to my transformer display case.
Thank God that is an unfinished model, because I was about to vomit!
That looks cheap, nothing like the Transformer toys that were out when I was a kid. I still have my old Optimus prime, it has rubber wheels and metal parts. Now that is a Transformer!
jonathan and burnteyez, did neither of you read that it's a prototype? I'm baffled by the amount of people on here that look at the picture in the article, then comment as if they read it. From now on, read the article, then comment. And use spell check, that's for everybody.
it looks like something i got from a happy meal 20 years ago.
*** if this is supposed to be official ?!?!?!?! it sure dont look official !!! are these going straight in the happy meal boxes at mcdonalds or the kids meals at burger king ???
Joshua Winter, yes I read it, it still looks cheap, just like the rest of the Transformer toys now on shelves. My comment was in comparison to the Transformer toys when I kid to those of today. Sure it's a prototype, but do you remember the Transformer toys in the early 80's? If not then you should check them out and compare. They had rubber on the wheels, see through plastic windows and the majority was made of metal. They just don't make them like they used to.
And speaking of spell check there Winter, check your grammar, it's did either, not neither.
I know it's not final but the way it's sounding, they're not going to be collector's models, but just cheap plastic toys.
Cost is the big factor as to why "they don't make 'em like they used to." When they did re-issue the G1 Optimus a few years ago with the same materials as the original it came with a price tag of around $100. Unfortunately, to get an affordable price and still meet safety standards for children, happy meal plastic is what you get. The only thing that will probably differ between this prototype and the final model will be some painted on details.
On the other hand, consider that Hasbro is the only major toy company who has never issued a recall for lead-based paint in their products.
Yeah, my first thought, before reading "unfinished prototype" was; "What? Are they going to promote the game with Happy Meal toy tie-ins?"
That looks stupid. Know transformers animated? War for cybertron toys, meet transformers animated. Now the game war for cybertron looks cool. The toys don't.
I also read the "prototype" section of that article. But I do not believe that the actual toy that will go on the shelf will differ that drastically from this one. It will probably still look like Hasbro robbed a McDonalds.
Definately getting Optimus and Megatron! This is great, I always have at least one collectable for my favorite franchises
It looks like a model of one of the Animated Seres toys, that was discontinued a while back...
I'm so angry that this plastic children's toy looks cheap and kiddie! GRRRR!
XD
i just want the game
Dull, uninspiring colors....
At least make it bright! And I agree looks like a happy meal toy...
man i hope the final product is incredibly better than this prototype, even if thats kinda easy to do
and you know thats still a pretty good kidsmeal toy
