Star Wars: The Old Republic Planned For Spring 2011

by Phil Kollar on Jan 12, 2010 at 06:21 AM

UPDATE: And it is confirmed! On the Star Wars: The Old Republic forums this morning, BioWare confirmed the spring 2011 target while reiterating that they do not yet have a specific release date in mind. Thanks to BloodyMurder in the comments for the tip.

ORIGINAL STORY: With Star Wars: The Old Republic continuing to hold out as the most likely upcoming MMO to have a real shot at Blizzard-level success, we've all been eager to hear more news on a release date. During an earnings call yesterday, EA CEO John Riccitiello dropped a hint on when we might expect to begin our online journey as Jedi.

GameSpot reports that Riccitiello said EA will launch "our major new MMO in spring 2011." Most people assume that EA's "major new MMO" must refer to Star Wars: The Old Republic, although GameSpot noted that they could also be talking about upcoming Realtimes World release APB.

When asked for clarification, an EA representative didn't provide much: "This wasn't a comment about a specific franchise, but a notation on how we are building a plan and guidance for the next fiscal year."

With Dragon Age still sucking away hours for many gamers, Mass Effect 2 just about to hit, and a Dragon Age expansion arriving this year, we probably have plenty of BioWare to keep us busy this year. Does spring 2011 sound like a sweet spot for The Old Republic to release?
