Channel 9 Accidentally Reveals Xbox Game Room
The folks at Microsoft are really excited about some of the company’s upcoming offerings – so much so that they let an Xbox-related cat out of the bag.
The news comes from an amusing little game of digital Telephone: someone at Channel 9, Microsoft’s community website, tweeted on the site’s Twitter page about a video interview with Microsoft’s E&D president, Robbie Bach. The interview wasn’t supposed to go live until after Microsoft’s keynote speech at CES however, which the interviewer references when he asks Bach about the announcement of the Xbox Game Room.
What exactly is the Game Room? Bach was surprisingly ambiguous, though the video wasn’t exactly supposed to be the reveal for the new service(?). According to the interview however, it sounds like the Game Room will be a place for Xbox owners to play old arcade games – something we heard rumors about earlier. All we know for sure is that Bach uses the word “retro” several times while describing it, and specifically mentions the game Centipede, though he doesn’t say it will be included in whatever the Game Room turns out to be.
Whether Microsoft’s Game Room ends up functioning like the arcade in the PS3’s Home is something we’ll have to wait for the official announcement to find out.
