Jesse Divnich, director of analyst services for Electronic Entertainment Design and Research (EEDAR), believes we may see a glimpse of a new Grand Theft Auto title at E3 in June.
Speaking to Game Informer, Divnich made a big prediction as to what we may see at the industry trade show in June. "I think we’re going to hear about another Grand Theft Auto. I think there won’t be any playable stuff. I think they’ll give you some type of teaser, because we do think that a year from then in 2011 we’re going to see another Grand Theft Auto."
We asked Divnich about whether Sony or Microsoft would try and nab some sort of exclusive rights to the newest GTA, but he thought that those days were over. "I don't foresee Microsoft or Sony attempting to obtain any type of exclusivity with the next Grand Theft Auto. Microsoft paid a lot of money for exclusivity on the downloadable content for GTA IV, which unfortunately did little to move consoles for Microsoft. Back in 2004, the Grand Theft Auto was a huge brand, but only relative to the other brands that existed at the time. While the GTA brand is certainly bigger now than it was five years ago, others have emerged to reach similar levels of success, such as Call of Duty or Guitar Hero. In other words, if Sony gets an exclusive deal on GTA V, it would do little to disrupt Microsoft's ability to move hardware, and vice versa."

Well at least we won't have to wait forever for the next one to come out, although it seems a little early to announce the next one in the series. I mean it just seems like yesterday that GTA:4 was released.
What I'm really hoping for at the next E3 is news on the next Zelda game and Heavy Rain.
im actually excited if a new GTA game comes out i mean it would be fun maybe a different city creating own character would be fun but they should add more ideas like mini-games and a what if part if u do a mission different than your suppose to. It would be cool if they had great missions like hi-jacking a subway train or a cruise ship :D
they should add new vehicles; ice cream truck, street sweeper, mail trucks, golf carts. i haven't played a game from this series except china town wars, so i'm not sure if they already have added these. i think it would be fun posing as those. ah.... then again maybe not.
No. Creating a character in a GTA game would suck. The story of GTA IV was so good becuase of its characters. Let Saints Row stick to the customization.
This isn't really news, it's kind of a "duh." If you think of the release patterns over the last decade. After RDR, they only have Agent to work on and they are clearly capable of doing two AAA's at once. Still cool beans though.
What really held GTA4 back, in my opinion, was the lagginess and unplayability of multiplayer. That's really an area that could have pushed the game into more of a fool around game, which I honestly put more time doing so into Crackdown.. GTA had so much potential in that regard I really feel we were really let down on.

Grand Theft Auto has always pushed what we thought was possible in terms of story and gameplay, and I look forward to seeing what the geniuses at rockstar come up with next.
I doubt his prediction. Rockstar really does not adhere to the trade shows. If anything, they will announce it around the same time.
I think this guy is just making stuff up off the top of his head. He probably has no idea. It would be exciting if there was one, but there's no way to know unless Rockstar has been hinting.
What we may see at E3 2010 is a teaser trailer or something of that sort, it's not like the game is releasing at this date, they're probably gonna take their time to make this the best they can do, so I'm not worried at all. It seems like you guys think the announcement is bad or too soon, but that only means that they started working on another game, can't seem to find anything bad about that.
btw: @xplay92: Heavy rain is coming very early 2010 so I don't think they would showcase it after release(which is rumored to be mid-february)

There's too much demand for this game for it to get an exclusive ride on one system. In the end a need for revenue by Rock Star Games thanks to their major screw up involving the release of the GTA IV DLC will win out and we'll see it on two consoles. Too bad E3 is a writers only event now. This is actually good timing though because they obviously aren't going to be putting out any more content for GTA IV and it's been almost 2 years now.

I don't know why some people are surprised by this announcement. I mean seriously, Vice City came out just 2 years after GTA 3 came out, and then San Andreas followed up just a YEAR later.
Still though, this is sort of exciting news, although my love of GTA has been slowly dying over time.
