New Wii Zelda Well Into Development

by Tim Turi on Dec 15, 2009 at 09:34 AM

Are you skeptical whether we’ll actually see another Wii Zelda next year? It’s not so crazy if you think about the parade of Link adventures that started in 2006 with Twilight princess. Since then we’ve seen annual entries in the series with Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks. Another Zelda game would fit 2010’s bill quite nicely, and Eiji Aonuma confirms the game is deep in development.

Speaking with Official Nintendo Magazine, the creator of the recent Zelda titles said the game’s development studio was already cobbling together “scenarios, dungeon-making and so on.” Dear god cross your fingers for a hookshot or boomerang.

Speaking of the new game’s incorporation of MotionPlus tech, Aonuma said the team has “already got a very solid response.” Whether he is referring to focus testing responses or the fact that the MotionPlus actually makes the Wiimote responsive is unclear. Regardless, you may finally have a reason to buy one of the little gyroscopic add-ons when the new Zelda releases.

“You may be under the impression that we are still only in the early stages of development – [but] in fact we are well into the making of the game…,” Aonuma continues.

"Our team has been working on making the building blocks regarding the action – the scenarios, dungeon-making and so on. We are well underway.”

Finally, Aonuma shared his hopes of Nintendo sharing more about the game come 2010’s E3.

If this game is as far along as its creator suggests, we could potentially see a new Zelda game, Mario Galaxy 2, and Team Ninja’s Metroid game all in the same year. Sounds like an utterly stellar year for Nintendo and gamers in general.
