November NPD Puts Call of Duty On Top

by Matthew Kato on Dec 10, 2009 at 11:53 AM

The November NPD data has just been released, and to no surprise, Call of Duty is on top. But that's not all that the November numbers reveal.

The November NPD Software Top 10:

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2: 4.2 million (360)
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2: 1.87 million (PS3)
New Super Mario Bros. Wii: 1.39 million (Wii)
Assassin's Creed II: 794.7K (360)
Left 4 Dead 2: 744.0K (360)
Wii Sports Resort: 720.2K (Wii)
Wii Fit Plus: 679.0K (Wii)
Assassin's Creed II: 448.4K (PS3)
Dragon Age: Origins: 362.1K (360)
Mario Kart w/wheel: 315.0K (Wii)

  • The Xbox 360 version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 more than doubles up the PlayStation 3 SKU
  • Top 10 titles from October such as Uncharted 2, Borderlands, and Forza Motorsport 3 are off the list
  • Already released Wii titles like Mario Kart, Wii Sports Resort, and Wii Fit Plus make a strong showing outside of New Super Mario Bros. Wii

The November NPD Hardware Top 10:

Nintendo DS – 1.7 million
Wii – 1.26 million
Xbox 360 – 819,500
PlayStation 3 – 710,400
PSP – 293,900
PlayStation 2 – 203,100

  • The Xbox 360 surges to number three and outsells the PlayStation 3

Any surprises for you? I'm not only surprised by the console numbers, but how quickly this month's top 10 has been re-stocked, so to speak, by more obvious holiday titles such as the glut of Nintendo products. That's not a reflection of the games, but more the buying habits over Black Friday.
