Mega Man 10 Confirmed

by Tim Turi on Dec 09, 2009 at 01:05 PM

In 2008, Capcom’s retro-sequel, Mega Man 9, provided a brisk splash of nostalgia to the face of longtime fans while simultaneously introducing old school challenge to new school gamers. Those who gobbled up the 8-bit masterpiece and were left starving for more are in luck. Mega Man 10 has been officially confirmed.

Revealed on Nintendo Power’s Web site, the game features both the Blue Bomber and his ambiguously allied brother, Proto Man. The caped, whistling wonder will be playable from the get-go, and will have the slide and charge abilities that were incorporated into the Mega Man 9 DLC. A mysterious third protagonist is set to join the crew, but Capcom is remaining tight-lipped for now. Your guess on who is as good as mine.

Prepare to be overwhelmed by the Mega Man 10's cutting-edge level design. Are you prepared? The game will feature treadmills, disappearing blocks and computer mouse enemies. One vicious new Robot Master revealed to be in MM10 is none other than Sheep Man. Get this, he can turn himself into four cotton-clouds and reign down sheepy death from above. What enemy weapon do you receive from a sheep boss, you ask? Thunder Wool!

In an attempt to inject some sort of (unnecessary) story into Mega Man’s duty of kicking Dr. Wily’s butt, Mega is trying to assemble a vaccine-producing machine. Apparently the disease “Robotenza” has spread wildly, managing to turn mild-mannered ‘bots into ferocious murderers. By ferocious we mean googly-eyed and adorable.

Mega Man 9 absolutely blew my mind when it released last year, with polish that rivals that of Mega Man 2. This tenth installment has a hard act to follow, but if MM9 was any indication of how much retro-goodness is being left untapped at Capcom, there’s a lot more where that came from.

We'll deliver more news on the game, such as a projected release date, as it develops.
