Borderlands Becomes The Best Selling New IP Of 2009

by Ben Reeves on Nov 16, 2009 at 12:20 PM

Texas-based developer Gearbox announced today that its recent release Borderlands has so far been the best selling new IP of 2009. "We are extremely excited about the reception that Borderlands has earned,” said Gearbox President Randy Pitchford. “I am personally very proud of the incredible team here at Gearbox for having created video game's first great shooter-looter."

Estimates of the game’s October sales come in around 545,000 units, putting the game ahead of both Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and Wii Fit Plus, at least for October.

The games sales are good news for fans eagerly awaiting DLC. Borderlands first download, The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned will be available on Xbox Live and PSN on November 24. Gearbox has already promised that there will be more to come, but if these sales keep up we don't think the DLC well will dry up anytime soon. A sequel seems almost assured at this point.
