One of the most unusual announcements at this past Tokyo Game Show was the reveal of Capcom’s Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition. Shown on stage at Sony’s press conference, the game highlighted support for Sony’s as-of-yet unnamed wand control in tandem with one-handed Sixaxis manipulation. It may have not been the most elegant control solution we could have thought of, but the game certainly sounded interesting. In addition to packing in the full version of Resident Evil 5, the Alternative Edition includes a mission in which Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine explore a mansion. After showing the game, Capcom played cute about its status, particularly about if the game would be coming to the U.S.
Surprise, surprise, it is coming to the United States. You didn’t think Capcom would let a Resident Evil game slip through the cracks, did you? What’s interesting is exactly how the game will be making its arrival. After polling the community on its official site, Capcom says it will be releasing the additional content via DLC this spring on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live.
There’s no word on pricing. How much would you pay for a new chapter in the RE5 saga? Would $10 be the sweet spot? If it’s as long (and interesting) as other chapters, would $20 be too much? What do you think?
If the 'alternative edition' is just the mansion and the DLC simply adds the mansion, then between 7 and 10 dollars would be okay. If there's an entire rework of the game in full.... $20 would probably be fine with most gamers.
First comment FTW!!!
any more than 5 dollars is ridiculous
it depends on how it plays,is it a rail game like the ones on the wii or can you just walk around like it is on the ps3 now?it's probaly not worth over $20
I still need to beat Resident Evil 5...
Surprisingly, I didn't find RE5 very fun personally. However, if it's less of the Majini thing and more of the 'slow zombies walking down a hall to eat your brains', I may consider it.
It matters, if the DLC has minimal content 8-10 bucks would be okay. If it had lots of fun content, maybe 16-18 bucks.
BRING IT ON! although RE5 wasn't scary in the slightest and the story lacked, i still want this since the game had good action and was fun!
Does it really matter how much the DLC is? If your a true Resident Evil fan it won't matter. Besides, at least we're getting in DLC form instead of having to buy the game again like in Japan!
True Jurassic... I'm a fan. I'll pay for it. Though hopefully it won't be more than 10 bucks.
lol, god of irony. you failed.
Yes!!! I voted on this. There was no way I wanted to Buy the game again
I'm confused. So is this only available as DLC? I was waiting for this to come out on a disc to buy RE5.
Yep, I'm getting this.
Collision. Capcom is only releasing it in one form. They set up a poll to see if their consumers whanted it as DLC or as a new Disc set. We voted and got DLC, wich is a win for everybody if you ask me. Even people who will be buying the game around the same time as the DLC release still get a better deal than people like me who payed the full 60 for the new title. We still have to pay for the DLC, but its better than paying another 60. And New consumers will be paying around 30-40 for their RE% disc and then whatever the download costs, wich will probably be around $15.00. So really its a win win.
i say 500 MS Points....its only one level...how about adding the ability to run and gun now i would pay extra for that
What I want to know is who the hell are they gonna be fighting in this chapter? I mean it would be pretty boring if they traversed the deserted mansion just to get to Wesker at the end... any ideas?
@ Collision...they are releasing it as a disc in Japan in Decemebr & DLC for everyone else in the spring.
$10-$15 is fine, if there is substantial content. For $5 dollars you will be lucky to get a costume change.
If it's a single level that takes any where between an hour or two to complete, then I would say $10. If it's a huge mansion with many levels and missions to explore then I might consider $15 or $20.
If its on the level of depth from GTA, then $20 is pretty reasonable. I don't see how it could be much more than an hour or so though. But, seeing as there was so much hooplah about it being released on disc or not then that would leave me to believe that it could be more content... I was just really hoping it would have been released on disc, I always prefer a hard copy of my games, and the rights to the media are different when you download since you don't technically OWN it. Either way, its good news for RE fans
