Call of Duty Endowment Aims To Help Veterans Find Jobs

by Jeff Marchiafava on Nov 09, 2009 at 07:00 AM

Modern Warfare 2 has been a lightning rod for controversy in the past few weeks, but a recent announcement by Activision Blizzard might garner the Call of Duty franchise some positive attention for a change.  The Washington Post reports that the company has created a new foundation called the Call of Duty Endowment (CODE) to help veterans find employment after serving in the military.

The foundation will contribute a total of $1 million to various groups that support veterans, who have historically faced higher unemployment rates than the rest of the nation. Activision Blizzard’s CEO, Bobby Kotick, expressed his concern over this fact. "The joblessness rate that [veterans] should have should be far less than the national average, not more…How do you expect people to actually join the military if when they leave the military they can't integrate back into the free market they're supposed to be protecting?"

Activision Blizzard’s first donation will be to the Paralyzed Veterans of America. The donation, $125,000, will help open a vocational rehabilitation center.
