Gran Turismo Series Creator Talks GT6

Polyphony Digital’s Gran Turismo 5 will make its way on the PlayStation 3 in 2010 packed with 1,000 vehicles to choose from. Even though the game has yet to be released, series creator Kazunori Yamauchi told Autoweek (via G4TV) the next installment is not too far behind.

“You won’t have to wait as long as you did for GT5,” Yamauchi said. “GT5 represents a whole new operating system. GT6 is just new apps that run on the GT5 system.”

GT5 has yet to see the finish line and Polyphony digital is already talking about their next race.

  • Guess they're pretty starved for cash after this long without a full game on the market. That's pretty ridiculous. Let's hype a sequel to a game that hasn't even released, let alone proven itself.

  • already talking about the next one?i wish developers for games like borderlands,resistance,uncharted,red faction,star wars battlefront,and rachet and clank would do that

  • hmmm....Yamauchi makes it sound as if GT6 is going to be a bunch of DLC running on the GT5 engine...I mean...operating system.

    Regardless, I find it absurd to start talking about GT6 when people (myself included) have been waiting for GT5 for yeeeeeeaaars.

    oh well.  I still have Forza Motorsports 3 to play with in the meantime.

  • this is going 2 be 999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999times better than forza 3

  • Maybe he should finish up 5 first.. I mean its been in development for years...at that studios rate they might as well include flying cars cauuse thats how long itll take em to complete a GT6.

  • I agree. We have been waiting far too long for GT5. Lets get it out already. Before we start talking about GT6. Yeesh!!

  • That's kinda ridiculous.  But i won't be playing any of those.

  • look at the graphics.better be a good game after all this wait even though i wont get it because midnight club is the only good racer to me.

  • ^ It better come in 4D with wind, tire smoke, gas fumes and 3,000 mile oil changes.

  • Same engine, different stuff? I wonder where I heard THAT before...

  • Hmm, not sure what to think of this. On one hand am glad the wait will not be another ridiculous one. However, it seems like GT6 will be what they really want to deliver with 5 but the wait has been too long so they are finally putting 5 out there. Hope that is not the case.

  • Wow. Sounds like they are aiming to build hype in the Gran Turismo camp since Forza has filled their shoes as of late.

  • wow that is really gay. What a rip off. If it is going to run off basically the same system. shouldn't GT6 content just be DLC?

  • Just because a game runs off the same engine means nothing.  All he is saying with this is that the wait won't be as rediculous as it was between 4 and 5.

  • Yeah your going to see a completely new game with 6 from 5 because of the fact that it's on the same engine just means we'll be playing a new game faster. I am willing to bet that 6 will have everything he couldn't get into 5.. making 6 the real game GT for PS3.

  • jeezzz let us experience one orgasm at a time Yamauchi!!

  • Well this is a double edged sword - I can understand the 'put off' sentiments people have about a developer talking about a sequel while within the same breath remarks that GT5 is a new system (thus untested in the marketplace).... but if you carouse the threads... there's a heap of topics that discuss the 'what ifs' about sequels to games that aren't out yet...or on their release dates. So, it's really not all that odd.

  • @keo528

    Nothing indicates that GT6 won't be DLC. As a matter of fact, it very well may be DLC; DLC is far more controlled and cheaper to distribute than physical media and with the onset of OnLive and various other modes of live gaming it could be something they're considering. However, since we have no real information on it one way or anther it's pointless to ponder it further.

    @WATCHM3N

    Yes, it's been in development for years... then again so was Windows Vista  - which should serve as proof that rushed software isn't favored. Windows 7 is much more polished and it's built upon Vista - some argue it's Vista, done right... so rather than be upset that 'it's taking too long' be happy that they're making sure it's the best it can be... .or have you forgotten the fecal matter that was GT4? Another thing to consider is that the developers may feel that it is an inopportune time to release GT5 and at least it's not a report of it being pushed back yet again.

    @SirSparklez

    The fourth dimension is arguably time, and far too quantum to really bring into a game. GT already has oil changes and tire smoke... though not entirely volumetric but I suspect we'll see it on turns, chicanes, and too heavy of a braking habit (or improper take offs).

  • I think this game has the gameplay all wrong. I stopped playing after number 3. sure, the graphics are great, but who the heck wants to drive honda civics and learn how to do corners correctly and other tururials for the first half of the game? nobody. for example, within the first 30 seconds of the game GRID, you are behind the wheel of a dodge viper, not some crappy sedan and working your way up.

  • lets see the 5th one before we even start talking about number 6
